The Italian electro-pop duo comes back to the scene with their new single “Too Old”, a catchy indie anthem about the desire of eternal youth and eternal life, what young age allows you to do and the fear of not having anymore time. The song anticipates their third album, due later this year. After an exciting and intense 2018, that saw the release of their second album “The Blonde Album” as well as important live opportunities such as opening for The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and Wolf Alice, the band is ready to embark on a new tour abroad, playing 9 dates in Germany and Austria before the summer festival season.
I’m Not A Blonde are the multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters Chiara “Oakland” Castello and Camilla Matley. Based in Milan they’ve been working together since 2014 writing electro-pop songs that bring together many different influences. Beats and synths from the ’80, brith-punk guitars and melodies from the ’90 to create a world of their own that can in some moments recall Moloko, Le tigre and more recently Holy Ghost and Tune Yards.
Their music and performance is based on the equilibrium of their 2 personalities, Camilla Matley who is also an architect loves strict, sleek style, while Chiara, who studied design, always prefers to leave a bit of noise and disorder around her, so their work reflects the research to find balance among different aspects of their characters such as irony and madness, minimalism and art-pop, digital and analogic, fun and seriousness. On stage they build their songs with loops that create overlapping musical structures. Voices, guitars and synths add up to create a sound that fills the space of a full band.
During their first year of activity, from October 2014 and July 2015, the duo published 3EPs, each one of them contains 3 songs to form a trilogy ironically called “3P”. All 9 songs were then collected together to be released as their first full length “INTRODUCING I’M NOT A BLONDE” in February 2016 for Italian label INRI-METATRON. The official video of “IF” was previewed on RedBull tvand the one of “Tudis” on Wired. They where both on heavy rotation on MTV Newzone Italy. tDuring these 3 years of activities they’ve been touring Italy taking part in important festivals as Lilith Festival (Genova), Diz Festival with Mouse on Mars (Milano), Home Festival (Treviso) w/ Duran Duran, Moderat and Soulwax, Flower Fest (Torino) with Peaches and Levante, WIRED NEXT FEST (Milano), SotAlaZopa (Trento), Milano Film Festival, Encode Festival (Torino) and Wow festival (Como). They also played as supporting act for the English band Hurts, Wolf Alice, Bluvertigo, Verdena , Planet Funk, Merchandise (4AD), Max Gazzè, The Killers, Wolf Alice and Franz Ferdinand.
